Strange Alliances
This year, we’ll be heading out on the French Broad during the month of June. We are still waiting on a date, but it’s looking like the weekend of June 6th. Still, let us know what weekend works for you:
20th Anniversary Year
June 2rd, 2025 marks the start of the 20th Anniversary of the Appalachian Mountain Piracy. Next year will be the public ‘all boats’ party on June 3rd 2025 that marks the public anniversary of the Appalachian Mountain Piracy.
Task & Purpose
This is going to be our first rafting trip on the French Broad since Helene hit the river. Most likely (very), we’ll proof the line before bringing everyone out. Barring the unforeseen (as in large trees blocking the line, cars, tanker trucks), we’ll get everyone out on the weekend for an easy going trip through the pits of Frank Bell. The plan is to go to Mountain Island to kick off the start of the Pirate Year.
Class
Only one class this year – Emergency Radios. The course will be taught shortly before putin and on the river. Two HAM radio operators will teach the class. We’ll show you how to scan the common bands used in the area during an emergency, signal propagation and band types. We’ll practice basic radio operation so you get an idea how to phone in an emergency. While HAM or GMRS licenses are not required, we’ll help you learn how to get one if you want.
